My student friend has been issued a legal notice from his earlier company, kind opinion please!?

Last summer he worked in an India based BPO for just one day, he had to leave the work without the minimum notice period of 1week due to fear of harassment, yesterday(after 1year) he got a legal notice from that company claiming one month salary(in stead of one week) and hundred thousand(one lakh) rupees in damages. All learned people kindly advise!
