Unsupported audio format for Xbox360?

K. Lately, we've been trying to watch movies on my bf's xbox but there's this message saying how it's an "Unsupported audio format, please check device audio output format" What does that mean??? We're trying to watch legit DVDs in our region so what can we do to fix it? We've tried everything it seems.
