Taking a pregnancy test!!! NEED TO KNOW PLEASE!!?

I took a test yesterday and the test was suppost to show a plus sign (+) if pregnate in 2 mins. well i waited 2 min and it only showed one line (--) in stead of the plus sign (+). but just to be safe i checked it again this morning and the other line faintly was visable (not that dark, very faintly, but it was there). does this mean im in a early stage of being pregnate. I should get my period on may 1st. Please help
