What that mean of me to say? And what should I tell my dad?

On fathers day i called my dad at midnight to say happy fathers day. The next morning my step mom text me , Who I've never meant because my dad moved to Philadelphia last summer and got remarried . But she text me and was like "hey! do you know what time you called your father last night? Please don't call him after 10 unless it's an emergency" I forward my dad the message and he called and said he didn't want to be in this drama and said that his wife didn't get to sleep til 5 in the morning cause she was worried even though all i said was happy fathers day.. And i told him she had no reason to worried and my dad was like yes she does and i said no she doesn't and he said she was my family now and i said no she is not! I've never meant this girl she's nothing to me don't say that again. And I just don't know if that was being a little to harsh saying that to my dad or was it okay cause she's giving me times now to call MY OWN father? Should I really not be able to call my dad whenever i want?
