Converting files help!?

Okay, so i film videos on my Nikon Coolpix L110 and have HD quality. Those videos have a .mov file format. I dont own an apple computer, so i would like to edit my videos on Windows Movie Maker. I use Any Video Converter, and that works fine. It just loses the quality of the videos. Is there any other free software converter that i can use, and if so, would you please let me know what file format to change it to and how to work the software. Thanks so much!
