Laptop D620 (emachines)?

My laptop only detects one display in stead of two. It does not give me any options to set up the 2nd monitor.Currently it only copies the laptop screen to the 2nd monitor.I need to open more than one window and place them on the 2nd monitor. Any suggestions please. It happened after i changed the operating system to win 7.
